Ethanol Fireplaces are user friendly as they require almost no assembly and very easy to operate. But at the same time they can be very dangerous if not operated and handled with extreme precaution. In the recent years, a number of severe accidents have been reported due to problems with misuse, stability and accessibility. As a source of live flames, Ethanol Fireplaces are no different than standard wood/gas burning fireplaces, and should be operated with extreme care.
Risks associated with Ethanol fireplaces:
Some studies show that the risks associated with alcohol-powered fireplaces mainly are three:
1- The risk of fire because flammable material gets in touch with the flame or parts of the fireplace with too high temperatures.
2- The risk of burns, e.g. because the appliance ignites nearby material, the user gets in contact with flames or the appliance falls over while ignited.
3- The risk of intoxication because of gasses that are produced by the burning flame. A safety problem may arise if the combustion is “incomplete” because it will then produce carbon monoxide which is poisonous. This happens if the fireplace burns in a small room or a room with insufficient ventilation or when using.
Therefore, it is mandatory that:
-NEVER PLACE THE FIREPLACE NEXT TO ANY COMBUSTIBLE MATERIAL. ALWAYS KEEP A CLEAR DISTANCE AS SHOWN ON THE PROVIDED MANUAL.
-DO NOT TRY TO DISMANTLE THE BURNER OR TRY TO USE IT IF ANY OF ITS COMPONENTS IS LOOSE OR SEEMS NOT TO FUNCTION PROPERLY.
-NEVER REFILL THE BURNER IF THE SURFACE IS STILL HOT. ALWAYS WAIT TILL THE SURFACE OF THE BURNER HAS COOLED DOWN AND THEN YOU CAN START REFILLING IT.
-IF YOU SPILL ETHANOL OVER THE BURNER OR AND ON ANY ADJACENT SURFACE, DO NOT IGNITE THE BURNER. MAKE SURE TO WIPE ANY EXCESS OF FUEL WITH A DRY CLOTH BEFORE IGNITION.
-NEVER OPERATE THE FIREPLACE IN A SMALL ROOM (REFER TO THE SCHEDULE OF FLOOR AREAS) OR ANY ENCLOSED ROOM WITH NO SUFFICIENT VENTILATION.
-IF THE FIREPLACE STARTED SMELLING OR IF YOU STARTED FEELING DIZZY, TURN OFF THE BURNER IMMEDIATELY AND MAKE SURE THE ROOM GETS ENOUGH NATURAL VENTILATION. MAKE SURE YOU ARE USING THE RIGHT TYPE OF FUEL.
-NEVER USE ANY KIND OF FUEL OTHER THAN DENATURED ETHANOL OR BIO-ETHANOL SPECIALLY PRODUCED TO BE USED AS A FUEL FOR ETHANOL FIREPLACES AS BURNER MIGHT EXPLODE LEADING TO SERIOUS OR LETHAL INJURY.
-NEVER USE ETHANOL GEL WITH OUR BURNER. OUR BURNER IS DESIGNED TO BE USED WITH LIQUID DENATURED ETHANOL ONLY.
-ALWAYS KEEP KIDS AND PETS AWAY FROM THE FIREPLACE. NEVER LEAVE KIDS OR PETS UNATTENDED.
- USE ONLY THE PROVIDED IGNITING ROD TO START THE BURNER. NEVER USE LIGHTER OR MATCHES TO IGNITE THE BURNER DIRECTLY. THE IGNITING ROD IS DESIGNED TO KEEP YOUR HAND AT LEAST 15 CM AWAY FROM THE BURNER.
-NEVER TRY TO MOVE, SHAKE, TILT OR ROTATE THE FIREPLACE WHEN IT’S ON. TURN OFF THE BURNER BEFORE MOVING, SHAKING, TILTING OR ROTATING THE FIREPLACE.
-NEVER REGULATE THE FLAME BY BARE HANDS. ALWAYS USE THE PROVIDED ROD TO ADJUST THE FLAME STRENGTH.
-IT IS ALWAYS RECOMMENDED TO KEEP A FIRE EXTINGUISHER STAND BY IN CASE OF ANY EMERGENCY.
